The work of Swiss amateur photographer, Karlheinz Weinberger is presented in Rebel Youth, a first-of-its-kind compilation of portraits of Zurich’s rebel youth of the sixties. Known as a pioneer of male erotic photography, Weinberger was also an influential artist to the fashion world documenting the defiant street styles of rebel youth including juvenile delinquents, biker gangs, and gay youths. From the late 1950’s through the ’60s, Weinberger photographed the unconventional glamour of the rebel culture highlighting their provocative handmade designs fused with iconic American pop culture imagery such as biker jackets, denim jeans, and bouffant hairdos. The playfulness and fierce individuality captured in the images in this volume has inspired countless contemporary fashion leaders.
