“Today, you write an ‘A’ on your jacket and you think you’re an anarchist. Fashion used to be a weapon for the young people to provoke change. What people need to do now is wipe their makeup off.” Ellinor Olovsdotter, stage name “Elliphant”, has just released her newest EP “One More”. Geisha hair, adidas tracksuits, fringe—“Elli”, as her fans know her, covers a broad range of cool in her music videos. The Stockholm-born, LA-based indie pop artist looks kind of like Léa Seydoux meets a new wave of Fever Ray costuming, and her brand of reggae-dubstep sounds like M.I.A. infused Major Lazer.
“One More” EP is out via TEN.

The first and only book about the band, “Modest Mouse: 1992-2010” is for anyone interested in a backstage pass to the indie rock and roll success story that has become emblematic of music at the cusp of the millennium. From the beginning of photographer Pat Graham and musician Isaac Brock’s friendship at activist punk house Positive Force to the release of the band’s platinum-selling album “Good News for People Who Love Bad News” in 2004 and beyond— Graham’s shares personal photos of the band members, the performances, the backstage, the road, the fans, and all the in-between weird. The book also features stories from fellow musicians James Mercer of the Shins and Doug Martsch from Built to Spill, as well as friend and artists others such as Jay Ryan.

Immigrant Union, comprised of well-known players from Melbourne, including DeBoer from The Dandy Warhols and Bob Harrow of The Lazy Sons, is releasing their second album “Anyway.”
Immigrant Union first hit the spotlight in 2011 with a self-titled album from producer Gregg Williams (Sheryl Crow, The Dandy Warhols, Blitzen Trapper). Frontman Brent DeBoer describes their fusion of psychedelic folk and traditional country as “spiritualized, being baptized in a river of Creedence Clearwater.”
The video for “I Can’t Return” (above) was directed by Mike Bruce, who has worked with Paul McCartney and Noel Gallagher, and stars Omar Doom of the film “Inglorious Basterds” and Carolyn Stotesbery of “Love and Mercy.” You can also hear Australian indie musician Courtney Barnett – who attracted considerable attention with her own debut album earlier this year – singing alongside Immigrant Union on “The End Has Come” (below).
“Anyway” is out via The MuseBox.

Album “Black Moon Spell”
Kyle Thomas is King Tuff, releasing his third full-length album “Black Moon Spell”. A Vermont native that has been part of the freak-folk band Feathers, pop wunderkind Happy Birthday, and doom-metal Witch, Thomas is pushing in new directions once again. The result sounds like an amused, anarchist teen making a superb synthesis of rock decades into what reviewers such as NPR have called the winning record of 2014 glam-rock revival.
Available via Sub Pop on September 22.
