A Partner To Lean On

Album by Trace Mountains

Trace Mountains, the side project of LVL UP’s Dave Benton, is gearing up to release their first full-length debut album, A Partner To Lean On at the end of the month, before embarking on a spring tour. The album, which the Brooklyn-based musician describes as a continuation of his “life-long relationship with music-making as a social process,” showcases a collaborative effort of tender and idiosyncratic low-fi pop, brought vividly to life through Benton’s evocative lyrical imagery. Mississippi Innocence Project

Book by Isabelle Armand

Levon and Kennedy: Mississippi Innocence Project is a photo book by acclaimed photographer Isabelle Armand that documents the time she spent over the span of five years with Levon Brooks and Kennedy Brewer, two African American men from rural Mississipi who were both wrongfully convicted of murder in separate trials the early 1990s. Brooks, despite an alibi, was sentenced to life and was imprisoned for 18 years. A few years later Brewer was convicted and sentenced to death. He was incarcerated for 15. In 2008, the nonprofit legal organization Innocence Project in New York exonerated both men. The intimate and at times heartbreaking photographic essay puts faces on the victims of wrongful conviction, capturing their lives, bonds, obstacles and environments, and raising consciousness about the critical issues in our criminal justice system. Keep the Change

Keep The Change, the directorial debut from Rachel Israel, which took home the prize for Best U.S. Narrative Feature and Best New Narrative Director at the Tribeca Film Festival, tells the unlikely love story of two New Yorkers who meet in a support group for adults with disabilities. Under the guise of an off-kilter romantic comedy merged with a docu-reality aesthetic, the film features a cast of nonprofessional actors with autism, starring Samantha Elisofon and Brandon Polansky. Poignant and thoroughly charming, Keep the Change offers a portrait of a community seldom depicted on the big screen, challenging our pre-conceived notions of what love is supposed to look like. Los Angeles trio Lo Moon’s highly anticipated self-titled debut is a dark and meditative dreamscape of crescendo rock and sparkling electronics, bridging the gap between soft experimental rock and atmospheric electronic pop. After spending much of last year opening for the likes of Phoenix, The War On Drugs, London Grammar, Glass Animals, Ride, and more, they’re embarking on their own headlining tour in March. The band will be celebrating their release with a special in-store performance at Amoeba on February 27th. (Colombia Records)
